FIGHT week ramped up on Wednesday afternoon with a two-hour open workout session on Bournemouth Pier.

In the first of a series of build-up events to Saturday’s fight night at Vitality Stadium, a number of boxers from across the card took to the ring for 10-minute blocks.

The event was open to the public, with three home favourites on show in Mace Ruegg, Lee Cutler and main event world title challenger Chris Billam-Smith.

Unbeaten WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie closed the show, with other talents taking to the ring including Isaac Chamberlain and Hampshire trio Joe Pigford, Michael McKinson and Lewis Edmondson.

Interviewed in the ring, Billam-Smith said: “I’m feeling superb. It’s been a great journey since I’ve signed with BOXXER and Sky Sports. The fans are the ones that have made it happen, they turn out for me time and time again and on Saturday night I get to repay them.

“I promise I will give absolutely everything I have to be bringing that belt back and keeping it in Bournemouth. I’m excited.

“I’ve been in camp all year ticking over and gradually building up, working on new stuff with Shane and the strength and conditioning coach and I’m in the shape of my life. I’m just so excited to put on a display on Saturday.”

Fighters will return on Thursday for a press conference, before public are invited back to the Pier for the weigh-in on Friday afternoon.

One famous face in attendance for part of Wednesday afternoon’s session was popular football manager Harry Redknapp, along with son Mark.
