GARY O’Neil believes the ongoing injury woes among Cherries’ squad have been due to a series of “individual” issues, rather than a wider problem.

It feels as though each week a different member of Cherries’ playing group has been struck down recently, depleting O’Neil’s options.

On Saturday, he named two goalkeepers on the bench, with not enough senior outfielders fit and available to feature.

That came after Marcus Tavernier (hamstring) and Matias Vina (knee) dropped out from the squad that won at Wolves the previous weekend.

They joined Junior Stanislas (muscle), Lloyd Kelly (calf), Lewis Cook (knee), David Brooks (hamstring) and Illia Zabarnyi (ankle) on the injury list, while Antoine Semenyo also missed training last week due to illness.

Neto (hamstring), Ryan Fredericks (muscle) and Dominic Solanke (knee), who all featured in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Manchester City, have each had lengthy spells on the sidelines in recent months due to injury.

Asked if there are any wider issues the club are looking into regarding possible causes of the injury build-up, or if the club are just experiencing a run of bad luck, boss O’Neil told the Daily Echo: “Of course, we look at all of them.

“But a lot of them (have been unfortunate), obviously the Dom Solanke one was just a training incident with no-one around him.

“Matias Vina has a shot in training. We have to shoot in training. His foot hits someone else’s foot, it can happen.

“The muscle injuries are ones that you look at and you think, could we have prevented that?

“But we haven’t had too many of them. Tav’s hamstring, we need to find out some more about.

“But I think you can always look and try and figure out what it is.

“But they are obviously very individual and we haven’t really suffered the same injury consistently.

“It’s just been a tough spell for us. We’re hopeful we can come out of it quickly.”
