CHRIS Mepham has revealed that the Cherries lads have been keeping in contact with David Brooks and offered reassurances to supporters, adding: “As far as I’m aware, he’s been in a good place.”

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder was diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin lymphoma and started treatment for the illness last month.

Cherries and opposition teams have shown their support for the talent with warm-up shirts, dedicated goal celebrations and rounds of applause to recognise the difficult time he’s enduring.

And while Scott Parker's side continue to romp unbeaten at the top of the Championship table, supporters have had Brooks in the back of their minds since the news was announced.

The defender told the club website: “Yeah, as far I’m aware he’s been in a good place.

“A few of the lads met him a couple of weeks ago for a coffee, trying to get him in good spirits, showing our support but at the same time not focussing on his illness, having a normal chat with him and seeing how he is.

“But no, he seems in really good spirits. Of course, it’s a difficult time he’s going through but he’s got everyone’s support.”

Mepham added: “That’s the most important thing, that everyone keeps in contact with him and I’m sure he knows that he’s got everyone’s love and support.

“I’ve messaged him a couple times since then and obviously it’s difficult but he’s fighting strong.”
