PRESTON manager Frankie McAvoy has hailed a “magnificent job” done by Scott Parker but insisted it’s “pointless” to not go all out to try and win at Cherries.

His side are just three places and nine points from the relegation zone but will visit Cherries on Wednesday, buoyed by a 2-0 win over Luton last weekend.

Speaking ahead of the contest, McCavoy said: “First and foremost we know what we’re going to be facing.

“I think they’re undefeated in the league and I think it’s the most points that anybody’s attained at this stage in the Championship, so without doubt Scott Parker’s done a magnificent job at Bournemouth.

“But if you’re on your game, anyone’s capable in the Championship, no matter where you are in the league, you’re capable of winning any game on any given day and we’ll go there, prepare ourselves as best as we can to try and win it at Bournemouth.

“It would be pointless going there and sitting back and just hoping for the best, we won’t. We’ll prepare ourselves as best as we can and do our utmost to try and win the game.”

McAvoy points to the strength in depth exhibited by midfielder Ben Pearson, who was a Preston stalwart until he signed for Cherries in January.

“Ben Pearson’s there and quite a lot of the time he’s found himself on the bench,” McAvoy said, “so that just shows the strength in depth that they’ve got within their squad and they’re a quality outfit.

“I don’t think there’s any questions or doubt about that.”
