PILOTS say Bournemouth has already become one of their favourite air shows in just its second year.

The scenery and sense of fun has won over the daredevils who tour events round the country.

The Echo spoke to them today after their morning briefing at The Queens Hotel in Meyrick Road.

Danielle Hughes, a wingwalker from Team Guinot, said: “It’s actually my favourite.

“From our point of view sitting on the wing it’s quite a picturesque view!

“The people here have been really friendly too.”

Andy Collins, from The Royal Navy’s Black Cats helicopter display team, said: “It seems very well organised and there’s a much more family feel to it.

“The bigger shows tend to be a little bit clinical and centred around trade and industry.”

Myles Garland, from The Blades, a team of ex-Red Arrows pilots, said: “Any new shows creates a bit of a stir and Bournemouth is a great place.

“Loads of people came last year, and this year it’s bigger and better.”

The pilots also had their personal favourites among the other planes taking part.

Myles Garland said: “I like watching the old warbirds – The Mustang has a great sound.

“The Eurofighter, the newest member of the RAF fleet, is always a great one to watch.”

David Barrell, a Team Guinot pilot, said: “The Vulcan bomber.

“It’s the only one left flying in the world, it’s got such a unique history, and a huge presence – and it’s noisy.”

Danielle Hughes said: “The Eurofighter Typhoon. Would I wing walk on it? Hell yeah!”
