PLANS for a £100m scheme designed to bring Bournemouth’s Winter Gardens site to life have been submitted to Bournemouth council.

The ambitious scheme seeks to build on the site of the former concert hall, along with neighbouring restaurants Valentino’s, Klute, Steak Out, La Strada and the office building Keystone House.

The proposals include:

• A cinema complex

• More than 10,000 square metres of shops and commercial units including a grocery store.

• Around 238 apartments including some affordable homes.

• A public piazza and additional family entertainment space that could include a public art gallery and children’s soft play area.

• A hotel with between 150 and 180 rooms.

• 750 car parking spaces.

Information provided with the planning application states that the proposals will enhance the town centre shopping experience, retain existing customers and bring new people into the town.

Hundreds of new jobs will be created and the new car park will enable shoppers to find a space at even the busiest times.

It states the architecture will express “the joyful character of a seaside town” and that the cinema will be a building to be proud of.

“The cinema build is conceived as a central jewel encrusted focus of the site, its solid shell covered with a metallic woven veil,” it states.

“This veil will provide a source of illumination at night, turning the building into a glowing box.

“A rooftop pavilion takes advantage of the amenity space available and the views.”

The planning application will eventually go before the council’s planning committee, who will decide whether to award permission.
