PLANS to redevelop a commercial building in Christchurch have been scrapped after receiving hauls of objections.

Construction company Ash Haus has withdrawn its planning application for changes to Wessex House industrial building in Somerford.

Ash Haus originally sought permission for the partial demolition, and extension to, the building in Groveley Road.

The proposal would have seen the site’s existing warehouse unit extended to provide a ‘modern fit for purpose work shop and office accommodation’, and would include a balcony on the elevation.

Whilst increasing the overall floor area, the objective of the redevelopment was to facilitate the relocation of the company into the area.

In a planning statement, Ash Haus said the construction of the facility would result in “improved working conditions” in place of its existing facility in Hurn, and would allow all of the company’s operations to take place in one site.

It was also said Wessex House was “in need of some repair and does not meet current standards for building regulations”, and so the proposals “create the opportunity to relocate into modern and fit for purpose facilities”.

Since the application was submitted in November last year, it has received multiple objections from residents.

One resident of Mudeford Lane said: “The inclusion of a balcony on the south/west elevation will directly look into my garden and property causing a total loss of privacy.

“The actual construction may cause instability to the rear of my garden putting the fence, greenhouse and trees at risk.”

Another Mudeford Lane resident said: “I have concerns over the noise levels, with increased staff, trading hours and closer in proximity. This has not been addressed."

A resident of Purewell Close said: "No information has been provided for the increased noise from the new use of premises.

“I would like reassurances and a full impact survey with consultation with neighbouring property owners prior to planning being authorised.

“I am one of several residents backing on to the proposed location and am currently on medication for anxiety and stress.”

The full planning application has now been withdrawn by Ash Haus.
