THE new owners of a Bournemouth pub are hoping to return it back to its glory days by tailoring it for people living nearby.

The Kings Arms in Wallisdown Road has had “a few bad years” under different owners but the new management is hoping they can draw a line in the sand.

Featuring freshly cooked food, a new menu, live music and an upcoming lick of paint, The Kings Arms appears to be going through a positive transformation.

New owner Stuart Wallace, who has been running pubs for 13 years, said The Kings Arms is now “for everybody, a great local pub for local people”.

He said: “Dan Bevington will be running the pub day-to-day because he is from the area, I used to work down the road in Wallisdown, too.

“It has been a bad, poor-performing site for a few years and I want to bring it back to what it should be.

“It has to be a great local pub for locals, because that is what it is, and we are here for whatever the locals want us for.

“We will have live music from local musicians, The Harlequins are coming on October 27, we have free pool every Tuesday, student nights every Tuesday and Saturday and on Friday is free jukebox.

“We really are introducing the pub back into the community, because it hasn’t been here for a while.”

Stuart hopes the pub will get back to the basics of what a pub should be – an inviting place for residents to spend time and socialise over good food and drink

“Rather than having corporate food in, we have our own menu and our own food, so we’ll have a decent 6oz steak and seasonal dishes as well as a lunch menu of £2.50 starter, £2.50 dessert and £5 for the main,” he added.

“We want to attract all the locals and all the students. We have Sky Sports, BT Sports, it’s just been upgraded to Sky Q.

“We will look to introduce quiz nights later down the line – so all the basic stuff that has been lost down the line.

“We have all the basic pub stuff that has been lost over the years. Pubs have lost their way to corporate giants, there’s so much paperwork involved, but when you do it on your own you can turn it into what you want.”
