YOUNG defender Chris Francis has joined Crystal Palace, after leaving Cherries this summer.

The 20-year-old joined Cherries last year, plucked out from non-league North Leigh United.

Francis, who came through the youth ranks at Swindon Town, never made a competitive appearance for Cherries’ first team, before being released.

He spent part of last season out on loan at Weymouth and featured as a trialist for Charlton Athletic last month.

But Francis has now agreed a deal with Palace, where he will join their development squad.

Discussing the move, Francis said: "I'm buzzing to sign for this great club and I'm really looking forward to this next chapter.

“The hard work continues."
