RESIDENTS in the surrounding area of Poole Hospital say parking is a “nightmare” as it has been revealed more than £100,000 has been generated from parking fines.

BCP Council, and the former Poole Council, has issued a total of 4,286 fixed penalty notices on the surrounding roads of the hospital, in Longfleet Road, accumulating £100,057 in revenue.

A Freedom of Information request by motor group Motorfinity found the roads where cars are most often found parked illegally include Longfleet Road, Churchfield Road, St Mary's Road, Shaftesbury Road and Parkstone Road.

Residents say they are “fed up” with cars parked on double yellow lines, on junctions and staying for an extended period of time.

Mrs Neilson said there has been one occasion where she couldn’t get out of her driveway after a car blocked her in.

She said: “It’s a nightmare parking around here. People just don’t think about those in their houses who need to get out.

“I understand when seeing loved ones in hospital you don’t give a second thought on where you put your car, but people are ignoring the yellow lines.”

Another man added: “I’m fed up with it but apart from handing out fines nothing can be done about it really. People will always be inconsiderate.”

A spokeswoman for University Hospitals Dorset said: “Our hospitals are very busy hubs and as such we see thousands of patients and visitors every week.

“We know a number of our patients use public transport to access our services at Poole Hospital due to its location, and where patients do need to drive, we encourage them to park in the multistorey car park.

“We will continue to work with the local community to listen to any concerns and to keep them updated on the future developments of our hospitals.”

BCP Council’s spokeswoman added: “Irresponsible parking can create unsafe conditions on our roads and has an impact on our communities, residents and businesses.

“We encourage the public to be considerate when parking their vehicles near Poole Hospital and thank those that do park responsibly.

“Our parking enforcement team work in the area as a deterrent to carry out patrols on our streets as often as possible.

“They will issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) to vehicles that are parking illegally and in some instances tow vehicles away.”
