A RINGWOOD mum's Facebook page has blown up after she shared her handy hack on how to preserve food in cans as a money-saving tip during the cost of living crisis.

Charlotte Barrett, a mother of two from Ringwood, created a Facebook page to promote a way of preserving food in cans and has gained 600 followers in two days after launching.

The "incredibly simple" method of canning is popular aroundthe world but it is "not really heard of" in the UK, she said.

The concept is not just good for saving money during the cost of living crisis but it also helps with reducing food waste.

Charlotte said: "If you cook any kind of meal like spaghetti bolognese, curry or any liquid-based meal, there is a way of pressurising it and you can keep them in a cupboard for around six months.

"My mum taught me about canning, and I've been doing it as long as I can cook, it's great and there is literally no difference in the taste at all, it will taste the same as when you cook it fresh.

"It's really good for preserving food and saving money, it's really popular around most of the world, but in the UK it's not really heard of."

Charlotte created a Facebook page named "thebusymummydoescanning" to help spread the word and see if it can help more families.

The concept proved extremely popular with her video quickly gaining more than 1,000 views.

Charlotte added: "When I finally set up a page and made some videos and it just blew up.

"A lot of air fryers are multifunctioning and have a pressure cooker setting that is needed for the process but you can also buy pressure cookers.

"The ball jars that are needed are available to buy in Lakeland, Bournemouth as well as Amazon, they are pretty readily available.

"So long as people are interested ill keep up the page, I want to share my tips.

"There are already pages around teaching about canning but there isn't really any that helps beginners.

"I want to bridge the gap between people who know nothing about it to be able to do it themselves."
