BCP Council has insisted Redhill's Fox Café will reopen next season, despite speculation from some residents the café will close permanently.

The facility was closed on Friday for the winter due to 'usage levels'.

However, they said no changes to long-term arrangements had been made.

Despite this, many had been speculating over the future of the facility.

Café regular Elena told the Daily Echo one of the staff had told her they were shutting down on Friday morning.

“Apparently they were only told on Tuesday that the council were closing it down and she was telling me that they don't know whether the Parks Foundation will take over.

"If they do so it will be run by volunteers so she will lose her job anyway.

"She also mentioned that they are looking to close the paddling pool for the next two years because apparently the costs for maintaining the pool are too much.

“I did mention to the girl that I am very sad and I spoke to other people that use the park and they're all very shocked because clearly you go there, you've got the playground for the kids so you can stop there for a drink, it's so handy to have the café and I really don't understand why they would be closing.

"I guess it's because of money issues but every time I've been there there's always been people especially elderly people who are on their walk and they stop there."

A BCP Council spokesperson said: “As part of decreased trade over the winter, which is a seasonal norm, some of our staff have been relocated to work at other sites where demand is higher.

“No changes to long term operating arrangements of Fox Café have been made and the intention is to open again around spring 2023.”
