WHY oh why do we continue with this madness?

The fact is the country is now in a period of financial difficulty, together with BCP Council also having problems with finance.

This being so, then why are the government and BCP Council continuing to build and waste money on aspirational projects such as cycle lanes.

The big question is, who authorises them and signs off the budget for them?

Will no MPs or councillors raise a voice against the monumental cost of this? Well, up to now none have done so.

One can only surmise why they are so quiet on this subject? Probably because they fear the noisy minority, as is the case with so many issues today.

Never in a lifetime are the number of people using cycle lanes ever, ever, going to justify the cost of building and maintaining them.

Raise a voice against cycle lanes being built, and yes, there will be uproar and outrage from the usual suspects who are obviously in the minority but seem to shout loudest.

Thousands of people in this locality alone (yes, we have all seen it) watch on as cycle lanes remain empty, standing as a great white elephant, representing the aspirations of governments and local councils.

Now we are in a cost-of-living crisis, isn’t it about time the decision to build cycle lanes was reversed or put on hold and the money diverted to more worthy causes?
