NEW BINS and signage have been installed in an area of Boscombe following an ongoing scourge of fly-tipping.

The council has installed new bins and signage in Churchill Gardens as part of its ‘Your Waste, Your Duty’ campaign.

Last month, residents reported problems with fly-tipping in the area were getting worse.

Councillor for Boscombe West, Lewis Allison, said he has reported fly-tipping hundreds of times but that the council ‘really isn’t doing enough’ to tackle it.

However, residents say even with the new bins, the problem has persisted.

One resident photographed the new bins with signs which read: “No tipping. Fly-tipping is a criminal offence.

“Unlimited fine and/or potential prison sentence. 24 hour CCTV in operation.”

But despite the signs the bins were pictured with fly-tipped rubbish left both inside and outside.

The council has confirmed there is CCTV in operation in the area and said it is prosecuting fly-tippers.

Councillor Bobbie Dove, portfolio holder for Community Safety and Regulatory Services said: “Our campaign called Your Waste, Your Duty was launched in the summer to ensure people understand what fly-tipping is and what it means for our local environment and urban places.

“Everyone should be aware that rubbish left outside your property but not on your property is considered fly-tipping and you are at risk of receiving a fixed-penalty notice.

“Communal bins were introduced in the area in 2018. Following ongoing discussions with the local community and the group Friends of Churchill Gardens, the council renewed the bins and also took the opportunity to discourage illegal dumping and fly-tipping with signs on the new bins.

Bournemouth Echo:

“This includes information that CCTV is in operation reflecting the fact that there are council-managed CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the communal bin areas.

“Enforcement officers continue to monitor this area and have served fixed penalties on a number of individuals identified as dumping waste in the area, including the use of evidence and footage provided by residents in the area to capture vehicle registrations.
