POLICE have intercepted a drone flying illegally over the Bournemouth Air Festival.

A video shared by Dorset Police captures their interaction with a man who had been flying a drone in restricted air space.

It was one of three drones stopped by Police on Thursday- the first day of the town’s air show.

All of the drones were seized, with the pilots facing possible prosecution.

In a tweet, Dorset Police said: “please don’t risk it and put display pilots in danger.”

It comes despite a drone-ban issued by Police across the four day event, and warnings that the force would have a counter drone team in operation, reacting to any incidents of drones in the airspace.

Explaining more, superintendent Wayne Nock, silver commander for the Bournemouth Air Festival, said: “We utilise the latest technology to detect, track and identify drones in the restricted airspace to minimise any incidents or delays to the flying display.

“If we identify any breach of the airspace, we will liaise with the flying director and take positive action.”
