A WOMAN and a child were left “scared” after youths "terrorised” her and her nephew by circling them on a dirt bike.

Jacqui Hoggon was out walking in Bourne Valley Nature Reserve with six-year-old Charlie on Wednesday, August 31.

But their walk was interrupted by a “ginger-haired boy aged 14 or 15” riding a dirt bike “recklessly without a licence or helmet”.

The retired 57-year-old said: “One of the lads started circling us and my six-year-old nephew Charlie was left scared. I asked him to climb up some ropes to keep safe from the motorbike.

“We then left and went home. Charlie was distraught so we went to the shops sometime later to get some sweets for him, but two lads were speeding up and down the road.”

Jacqui said the incidents left her and Charlie “very scared” and added it is “not on” that she had to tell a six-year-old to keep out of the way of the riders.

She added: “They were so close to me I was within reach I could’ve pushed him off. But I would’ve been in the cell that night, not the boy on the bike. They are terrorising Bourne Estate.”

Bourne Valley councillor Toby Johnson said: “This anti-social behaviour is a problem, not just in my ward, but also across the road in Wallisdown.

“However, it is more disturbing when it takes place on protected heathland and nature reserves as these are supposed to be places of peace and safety.

“Not only is it dangerous for residents and normal visitors to the area, it also poses a huge fire risk thanks to the dry summer and nature of the land.

“We need the police to crack down on these unlicensed bikes terrorising our residents and our neighbourhoods.”

Fellow ward councillor Tony Trent has been having communications with the police about similar incidents. He said: “This needs to be prioritised. It’s an ongoing problem which is getting worse.

“Motorbikes and mopeds often drive at high speed in this area.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police received reports on the afternoon of Wednesday 31 August of a scrambler bike being ridden anti-socially in the Grange Gardens and Bourne Valley Park areas of Poole.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are aware and will be taking action to deter this behaviour and identify those riding the bike.

“Members of the public can approach officers while on patrol with any information or concerns.”
