THE launch of 3 Acres Festival was a "success" as more than a thousand visitors enjoyed live music in the sunshine this bank holiday weekend.

Poole's first ever 3 Acres Summer Gathering on Ashley Cross Green took place over on Saturday and Sunday..

The event featured musical performances from hit making singer songwriters Finley Quaye, Mark Morriss from the Bluetones, local band Saints of Sin, Mischa & His Merry Men, Numb, an Ed Sheeran tribute act and many more.

The two-day event was supposed to launch in 2021 but was cancelled at the last minute after a large number of organisers tested positive for Covid.

Festival director Ben Dyas said: "We are glad to finally be here seeing everyone enjoying live music in the sunshine.

"We wanted to create something that worked well on a small site so that we didn't create anything with too much of a negative impact.

"We've had more people than expected, on Saturday we had around 1500 people which is great.

"Everyone who has come has said they had an amazing time, when I spoke with people on Saturday so many people said they will be coming back on Sunday which is fantastic.

"We've got a great mix of local bands, performing lots of different styles of music, there is something for everyone."

Saturday's performer Finley Quaye, BRIT and Mobo award winner, is best known for soulful hits like Sunday Shining and Even After All from his top 3 debut album Maverick A Strike, but has performed all over the world and his most recent album Faux Nail came out 2019.

Alongside the live music, the festival had a full programme of children’s entertainment, street food, a gin bar, a prosecco bar and plenty of craft beer, ciders and real ales.

The Green where the event took place was formerly known as 3 Acres, which is why that name was chosen for the festival.

Ben added: "This was planned to be a nice local community event for the bank holiday weekend, and we were successful in that.

"We hope to return next year to continue this event."
