SPLASHDOWN in Poole is closed today due to a “major mechanical failure”.

The water park located at Tower Park said a part is “enroute” so the “unexpected” mechanical issue can be resolved.

It is anticipated the attraction will be open as normal tomorrow.

People have been urged not to travel to Splashdown.

Posting on social media on Wednesday morning, a spokesperson said: “We have major mechanical failure to a pump today 17/8 we will not be able to open today - we are so sorry do not travel to us we will contact you via email re any bookings today.”

Providing an update at around 1pm, a spokesperson said: “The park will remain closed today.

"The part is now enroute and will be fitted as soon as it arrives. There is no possibility to be open today but the fix should be affected today so that we can open as normal tomorrow.”

Customers who had tickets for today have been contacted by email and phone with refunds due to be issued, Splashdown said.

The spokesperson added: “Thank you for your patience and understanding as you can imagine it is not what we would want to happen at anytime, let alone a sold out summer holiday day. We are so sorry.”
