THE major construction work on a new emergency department building at Royal Bournemouth Hospital is progressing at speed.
Two huge tower cranes have been on the NHS hospital site since February for the project to deliver the new BEACH (Births, Emergency care And Critical care and child Health) building.
The construction is due to be completed in autumn 2024 and makes up part of the £250million transformation programme across University Hospital’s Dorset NHS Trust (UHD) sites.

Latest images from the building site show a hive of activity with the concrete structures for the first couple of floors starting to rise up from the ground.
Mark Mould, UHD’s chief operating officer, said: “We’re delighted with the progress of the construction phase for our new BEACH Building which will deliver a new maternity unit, children’s unit, enhanced emergency department and critical care unit for the region when it opens in 2024.
“The support structure is now being put in place and by using modern methods of construction (MMC), constructing offsite where possible, we’re minimising the impact on the environment.”
The UHD transformation programme will see Poole Hospital become the major planned care hospital for the area, while significant investment at Christchurch Hospital is also in the pipeline.
