A FIVE-BED house in Lowther Road, Bournemouth is to be knocked down and replaced by a block of nine flats.

BCP Council members agreed the application for the large Georgian-style family home after being told that a similar application, for ten flats, had previously been agreed, although the consent had since lapsed.

Several neighbours had objected to the new proposal, one describing it as “unwanted, not needed and unnecessary” claiming it would only add to water and sewage problems in the area and increase the number of cars on local roads.

Planning committee chairman and ward councillor David Kelsey said that although there were only three parking spaces proposed for the site there could be two cars per flat, potentially leaving 15 vehicles which would need to be parked elsewhere.

He said, despite this, the application fully complied with BCP Council’s parking spaces policy which did not require any spaces to be provided.
