A BUSY road in Bournemouth has closed once again for around seven weeks to allow work to continue as part of the regeneration plan for the area.

Holdenhurst Road in the Lansdowne only reopened in July having been shut for 12 weeks, following the completion of the initial phase of the authority’s regeneration scheme.

A spokesperson for BCP Council said: “Our vision for Lansdowne is to create an exciting and attractive place to live, work, study and enjoy. Major improvements to the public realm commenced in the spring 2021 on Holdenhurst Road.

“The road was reopened in July 2021 following an initial delivery phase and this was done to support residents, local businesses and visitors ahead of the busiest part of the summer period.

“Throughout the summer the installation of new footways on both sides of the road has continued. To complete this safely and efficiently, the decision has been made to close Holdenhurst Road to vehicles, between Lansdowne Roundabout and Cotlands Road for approximately 7 weeks from Tuesday 7 September 2021. A signed diversion will be in place via St Swithun’s Road and Christchurch Road.’’

As a result bus services will redirect following the diversion route.

Morebus confirmed on their website that their 1, 13, 17, 32, 50, X1, X2, X6 and U1 services will serve at stops already in-place along Christchurch Road with temporary stops in place on St Swithun’s Road.

With the road closed it is expected to shorten the time required to finish the next stage of the regeneration plan.

The council spokesperson added: “This closure will shorten the time taken to complete these works, allow for materials to be transported to and from site and provide sufficient space for the appropriate safety barriers to be installed.

“It will also allow us to maintain access to businesses and a safe through route for those travelling on foot or bike. This would not be possible if we were to keep the road fully open.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause. Please plan ahead and consider walking or cycling whenever possible.”
