A TAXI driver was threatened with a knife by a passenger who made from the vehicle with cash.

Police received a report of the robbery in the West Howe area of Bournemouth on Monday morning.

The victim parked his car shortly after 7.20am in Turbary Park Avenue and asked for payment from a male customer.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said it was reported that a man got out of the back seat and into the front seat of the taxi and grabbed the victim by the back of his head, before producing a knife and demanding money.

He allegedly left with a quantity of cash in the direction of Lydford Road.

The victim, a Bournemouth man aged in his 50s, did not sustain any injuries.

"An investigation is underway into the incident," said the spokeswoman.

"A 40-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries."
