AN AMBULANCE ended up on its side after a crash with a car at a traffic light junction in Poole.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene of the collision on the A35 Commercial Road, Ashley Cross on Friday afternoon.

Four people, including three members of ambulance crew, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

The incident took place at the junction with Parr Street just after 2pm.

BCP Council’s highways team were also requested due to fluid in the road.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: “Dorset Police received a report at 2.21pm on Friday, July 9, of a collision involving a car and an ambulance on Commercial Road in Poole.

“It was reported that the ambulance was on its side.

“The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

“The local authority was requested to clear fluid in the road.”

The eastbound lane towards Bournemouth was closed and officers diverted traffic while the ambulance and the car were both recovered.

The car involved was an Audi registered to an address in Poole, police said.

The ambulance involved in the collision was returning from a separate incident and did not have a patient on board at the time of the collision.

A South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) spokesperson said: “We sent multiple resources to attend the incident including land ambulance crews, a critical care team and a doctor.

“Four patients including three of our colleagues sustained minor injuries.

“We treated them at the scene and transported them to hospital as a precaution.”

Two fire crews attended to assist the police and provide fire aid to the people involved.

A spokesperson from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 2.22pm on Friday July 9, firefighters from Westbourne and Poole were called to Ashley Cross, Poole following reports of a road traffic collision involving an ambulance and a car.

“On arrival firefighters provided first aid to four casualties and made the vehicles safe.

“Colleagues from Dorset Police and South West Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

“The stop message was received at 3.03pm and firefighters remained on scene until 3.24pm.”
