A WITNESS of a crash between an ambulance and a car on Poole has credited the quick response of the community following the incident.

Police and fire crews were called to the Ashley Cross on the A35 Commercial Road, Ashley Cross on Friday July 9 following a collision which left an ambulance on its side.

After hearing the crash soon after 2pm, residents poured out onto the street to provide assistance to the four people involved before the arrival of the emergency services.

One onlooker from London said: “We were having lunch in the Ox when we heard this almighty crash. It happened at around 2.08pm

“We ran out of the pub to see what was going on.

“At the same time, residents came from everywhere to see what had happened and to try and help.”

Bournemouth Echo:

Some resident rushed to the assistance of the casualties, whilst others stopped the oncoming traffic and called for the emergency services.

The witness added: “Two blokes got on top of the ambulance and managed to help one of the paramedics out, and another resident handed out drinks to everyone who was in the crash.

“Another person got a ladder out to get the driver of the ambulance out and one lady in shorts and flip flops was stopping the traffic before the police arrived.

Bournemouth Echo:

“It was so nice to see the community come together so quickly to help these people out. The good news is that no one was seriously hurt.”

Four people, including three paramedics, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by the fire service before being taken to hospital as a precaution.
