A COUPLE in their 80s have been married after meeting on a senior dating website.

Euan and Freda Coffin were wed on Thursday, June 3, after meeting on a senior dating site in February 2019.

The happy couple, who live in West Howe, were married at The Guildhall in Poole surrounded by a small group of family and loved ones before enjoying a ‘wonderful’ reception at The Chequers in Lytchett Matravers.

Following the tragic loss of Tony, her husband of 59 years, Freda was struggling with loneliness and life on her own so confided in her family.

Next thing Freda knew, her granddaughter had signed her up to a dating website for seniors - where she went on to find Euan.

Freda said: “Things came in thick and fast, I didn’t know what to do.

“It was the first one [dating site] I’d used and Euan was the first person I spoke to.

“We have similar interests and both said the same thing - that we didn’t want anything serious, just friendship, but here we are now married!”

Their first date was in a Lidl car park, because Freda didn’t want to give out her address.

The pair hit it off and spent hours in the cafe across the road chatting away over cups of tea.

“We just like the same things, simple things really - going to the garden centre for tea, having day trips out, going to the cinema and the theatre,” said Frieda.

The global pandemic only pushed the pair closer together as they decided to become a bubble and spent lots of quality time together.

Not wanting to wish away the time they have together, Euan decided to propose to Freda at home one afternoon.

“He just dropped down on one knee and proposed and of course I said yes,” chuckled Freda.

Freda has perked up Euan’s life no end following a few hard years following the loss of his wife Euan, born and bred in Bournemouth, has suffered desperately with grief following the loss of his wife nine years ago and subsequently his partner who died of lung cancer in 2017.

Over the moon that the pair have found each other, Theresa, Euan’s daughter, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled. Freda is a lovely lady and she’s a similar type of person to my mum.

“We all have a lovely relationship and we’re just thrilled that dad is happy.

“She’s bought some fun and laughter back into our lives after some sad years.

“Freda’s family are all lovely too and they feel the same way about them getting together - it’s great.

“We just hope that they get some quality happy years together at their age - we all hope they stay well enough to enjoy life as much as they can.”

Enjoying their life is exactly what the couple plan to do who have booked their honeymoon to Salcombe in September.

Freda said: “Life goes on and we haven’t got that much time left so you’ve just got to use it and enjoy what you’ve got.”

Next year the happy couple are hoping to go on a coach tour of Scotland and in the meantime, Freda says they will be enjoying their garden with all of their family.
