IT may be spring, but snow and sleet showers have been spotted across Dorset and the New Forest today.

Last week’s balmy temperatures and blue skies have been replaced by a cold front bringing some rather unseasonable weather.

Brief snow showers have already been reported in parts of Bournemouth, north Dorset, Purbeck West Moors and Lymington.

Forecaster DorsetSun captured footage of this short shower in Bournemouth.

The forecaster had said that flurries could be on the cards and said wintry showers of rain, sleet, snow and hail could be expected between 3pm and 11pm today.

In his ‘wintry watch’ forecast, DorsetSun said: “Organised wintry showers will sink south during Tuesday afternoon and give Dorset a feed of sleet and snow showers.

"The showers are most likely to fall as snow further inland, but with low dew points and evaporative cooling in any heavier showers, almost any area could see falling snow.

“Central Dorset is most likely to see the heaviest of the showers and there is a chance of a temporary dusting in places.”

Temperatures are expected to be around 9C for the rest of the week with lows of around -2C.

Last week saw the warmest weather of the year so far with temperatures in the mid to high teens.
