TWO new student housing blocks in Bournemouth will be opening in the new academic year.

A topping out ceremony was held at Belaton House in Holdenhurst Road and Bailey Point in Lansdowne Road to mark the completion of the buildings.

The event, which was attended by representatives from Bournemouth University and the building’s contractors, McAleer and Rushe, also marked the opening of show flats.

The two developments by The Student Housing Company will bring 949 student rooms to Bournemouth. Facilities in both blocks include games rooms, communal study and cinema rooms.

The £23m Belaton House will provide 399 bedrooms, in a combination of three to eight-bed apartments, ‘twodios’ and studios. The site will also feature several shared common areas, including a gym, cinema room and study spaces.

Upon completion, the £31m Bailey Point will be a landmark high-rise building on a site previously occupied by a Bournemouth University building and car park.

The development will house 550 students in a combination of four to eight-bed apartments and studios. As part of the works, highway improvements are also being undertaken. The residence already has a nominations agreement in place with Bournemouth University.

Richard Brenner, operations director at The Student Housing Company, said: “We firmly believe that our student accommodation can make a real difference to students living here, while freeing up housing stock for the local community.

“Integrating within communities is extremely important to us and we can’t wait to start showing prospective students around both developments.”

Dominic Trainor, contracts director at McAleer & Rushe, said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in the construction of both Bailey Point and Belaton House. Our teams on both sites are proud of the opportunities they have been able to engage with the local community, schools and charities in the Bournemouth area and look forward to reaching out further.”

The Student Housing Company strives to provide students with the confidence to expect the highest quality accommodation and service. At Bailey Point and Belaton House students’ financial worries are kept to a minimum as all facilities and bills including water, gas, electricity, heating, high-speed broadband and maintenance are covered in the monthly rent. The company’s on-site management team is also on hand 24/7 to help students thrive and make the most of student life in Bournemouth.
