A CAR park in Bournemouth town centre has been shut for seven weeks due to a "leak" - but the extent of the problem remains a mystery.

BH2’s underground car park in Exeter Crescent, which is operated by NCP, has been closed continuously since December 28.

Savills, which has been appointed managing agent of BH2, said the leak occurred from one of the operators/tenants and that it had damaged "critical equipment" in the car park.

However, staff at the complex appeared unaware of the specifics concerning the problem, with various reasons for the closure given, including an electrical fault, lighting issue and a gas leak.

Signage around BH2 says: "Due to electrical issues the car park is currently not in use".

The doors into the underground area are closed and shut off with a D-lock.

Bournemouth Echo:

It is not known which tenant is responsible or what piece of equipment was damaged.

Savills said the equipment had been taken off site to be rebuilt and is awaiting re-installation.

The agent added: “The matter is being addressed with the utmost importance and we are working closely with engineers to resolve this as soon as possible.”

At the time of the closure, BH2 said on Facebook: "We apologise for the inconvenience but due to a power failure the car park at BH2 will be closed until further notice."

On January 3, the leisure operators said: " Water damage caused the car park smoke extraction control panel to fail. Customer safety will always be our number one priority and have therefore taken decision to close car park until this life safety system is fully operational again."

The car park offers 175 spaces and 20 disabled parking bays.

Access to the car park is currently closed off with a shutter in position at the entrance.

Bournemouth council said they were not in a position to comment on the closure as they are not responsible for the car park.

The £50m BH2 leisure complex features a host of restaurants, a 10-screen multiplex Odeon cinema, Mr Mulligans adventure golf and the virtual reality arcade, Centre VR.

TGI Fridays was the first restaurant to open in the complex in January 2017 with the Odeon multiplex opening in February 2017.

The flagship 10-screen cinema includes a big iSense screen with 56-channel Dolby Atmos sound.

Other businesses inside the complex include Pizza Express, Five Guys, Miller & Carter Steakhouse, Nando’s, Las Iguanas and a Costa Coffee shop.
