SEVERAL miles of tailbacks left motorists suffering lengthy delays on a major route through the New Forest this evening.
Queueing traffic was reported on the A31 eastbound stretching back 'several miles' according to Hampshire Police.
At approximately 6.50pm a single vehicle had broken down at Poulner Hill partially blocking the road.
The police spokesperson said: "It was just obstructing the carriageway and it was recovered.
"There were several miles of tailbacks whilst that was being done but traffic could pass."
Congestion had been reported backing up as far as Ringwood.
It is the second such incident in as many days to affect commuters using the A31 after an overturned caravan closed the road for around seven hours yesterday.
