THE Regent Centre has a proud history of bringing all the latest film releases to Christchurch.

The beautiful art deco cinema and theatre was built in 1931 and is offering film buffs a chance to view some of the box office hits of yesteryear that would have graced the Regent’s big silver screen over the decades.

A series of classic film presentations are being planned with one or two showings each month.

The Classic Film Season will start on Thursday, December 4 at 2.30pm with the ultimate romantic World War 2 drama, Casablanca (1942) (U), starring Humphry Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, who are caught up in the twilight zone of Vichy French controlled-Casablanca in Morocco. Casablanca won Oscars for Best Film, Screenplay and Director for Michael Curtiz.

It is also on many critics’ shortlists for Best Film of All Time.

Future film classics include everyone’s favourite festive film, It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) (U) with James Stewart on Monday, December 15 2.30pm & 7.30pm.

Then there is a chance to catch the ultimate Disney animated classic and the last to be supervised by Walt Disney himself, The Jungle Book (1967) (U), shows on Friday, January 2 at 11am.
