Mrozcka could be in line for Pirates berth

PIRATES hopeful Artur Mrozcka may have secured a permanent passage to Britain for 2010 after scoring eight paid 10 points on a stunning Wimborne Road debut last night.

Poole’s experimental side beat South Coast rivals Eastbourne 50-43 to claim the Draper Tools Trophy 93-90 on aggregate.

It was a great night for the club’s returning heroes as Swedish legend Magnus Zetterstrom bagged nine paid 10 on his first appearance in Dorset since securing a place in the 2010 Grand Prix series.

Guest Troy Batchelor, who donned the skull and crossbones in 2007, racked up 11 to push his case for a Poole recall.

The talents of this dynamic duo are well known to the Wimborne Road faithful, but the heroics of 19-year-old Mrozcka certainly set tongues wagging on the terraces.

It takes a very special kind of rider to fly in from Poland and immediately turn their hand to the much tighter circuits Britain has to offer.

But his full-throttle, attacking style suggests he is ready to become a regular fixture in Dorset next term.

Mrozcka was forced to work hard for his points as he struggled to beat his rivals out of the traps, but the Pirates fans had no complaints when the teenage thriller went on the offensive.

First, he claimed second in heat two after dispatching Eastbourne newcomer Robin Aspegren.

After just missing out with a fierce drive up the Swedish trialist’s inside on lap two, turn two, Mrozcka made his move stick and dive-bombed through a lap later.

The young gun showed he has no respect for reputations as he then gave Eastbourne skipper Davey Watt a big fright in heat four.

He was forced to settle for third spot behind the Aussie, but had much better luck in race eight.

Mrozcka picked off visiting reserve Ricky Kling for second with another fine move up the inside on lap two, bend two.

He claimed third behind Lewis Bridger and Zetterstrom in heat 11, before completing a delightful debut by notching a brilliant 5-1 with Batchelor in race 12.

While Mrozcka made a great first impression, Batchelor was also a popular guest for Poole.

He brought the house down in race five, when he led Pirates guest Matej Kus to a 5-1 over his arch-rival Bridger.

The duo were allegedly involved in a mass brawl following Poole’s trip to Arlington last Saturday, and Bridger was given a very hostile reception by the home supporters.

However, the Team GB international top-scored for the Eagles with 14 points, including a tremendous tactical win over Hans Andersen and Zetterstrom in heat 13.

With Eastbourne owner Bob Dugard looking to retire over the winter, the Sussex side may not return to the Elite League next year.

And with Bridger likely to be searching for a new home, who is to say Mrozcka was the only Poole star of tomorrow on show last night?
