AN Olly Andrews try and a vintage kicking display by Phil Graves inspired Swanage & Wareham to a 22-13 victory over Oakmeadians in the Dorset & Wilts Cup semi-final last night.
Prop forward Andrews forced his way over in the 27th minute to bag the Bestwall boy’s touch down in the tussle played under floodlights at Chapel Gate.
Outside centre Phil Graves slotted over five penalties and one conversion as Swans stormed into a 16-6 interval lead before Oaks hit back with a late converted try to add to a couple of first-half penalties.
Swans, who qualified for their 15th successive Twin Counties cup final, meet holders Bournemouth in the final on a date and at a venue to be decided.
The Purbeck side’s captain Robert Elford said: “We had to be at the top of our game to beat Oaks because they had a strong side.
“But it’s the Dorset & Wilts Cup and it brings out the best in us. It’s as simple as that.
“Every one of our players involved – and it’s a 22-man squad – knew how important the game was, and everyone who went out on the pitch last night played brilliantly.”
