CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell hinted Cherries could still revive their interest in Brett Pitman and Anton Robinson after coming close to re-signing the duo.
The Cherries chief last night reported that the Dorset club failed in their attempts to bring back the former Dean Court stars on transfer deadline day.
Mitchell confirmed reports that Cherries had been in contact with Bristol City and Huddersfield Town to enquire about Pitman and Robinson.
Daily Echo sources suggest Cherries could yet opt to swoop for the pair should they decide to try to strengthen now the loan market is open for business.
And when asked about the duo, Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “We did talk to Bristol City ahead of the deadline and we also spoke to Huddersfield ahead of the deadline.
“We are turning the corner and we’re hoping that it is less likely we will need to keep adding to the squad to get our goal. But the whole game is results-driven so we will keep a careful eye on our situation.
“If the need arises to change personnel or add to it, then I am sure Paul (Groves) and Shaun (Brooks) would let me know and we would go looking. Those would be two places we would look but we couldn’t do any more than that at the moment.”
Prolific striker Pitman and midfielder Robinson established themselves as key players during Cherries’ transformation under former boss Eddie Howe .
They could both be available on loan after failing to secure regular first-team football at their respective clubs this season. Bristol City star Pitman, also recently linked with a switch to Howe’s Burnley, has made just two appearances for the Robins this term. After making 12 starts and 13 substitute appearances in the league for Huddersfield last season, Robinson has yet to feature in the 2012-13 campaign.
Mitchell said: “We got quite close with the pair of them but we ran out of time.
“I made enquiries and spoke to Bristol City and Huddersfield. Both of their demands were far in excess of what we were looking to do business at, so it fell by the wayside.”
Speaking ahead of today’s home League One clash with Hartlepool (3pm), Mitchell added: “We need positive results and we got one last weekend, and we have got what we would consider to be enough players to participate with us.
“So, at this moment in time, we are more than happy with what we have got.
“We have got a great bunch of lads and their training is getting better as we start to mould together. I am told this by the manager and assistant manager every time I enquire. We are enthusiastic.”
