A VITALITY Stadium steward has withdrawn a statement to Dorset Police alleging an assault by Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.
Following Raheem Sterling’s late winner in City’s 2-1 victory over Cherries this afternoon, substitute Aguero was one of a group of players who ran over to celebrate in front of visiting fans in the East Stand.
Tonight, the club has released a statement about the allegations.
The statement reads: "AFC Bournemouth are aware of an alleged incident which occurred following Manchester City’s second goal at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
"The club have been advised that due to a misunderstanding, an earlier statement alleging assault has been withdrawn and no assault took place.
"AFC Bournemouth recognises that stewards and police were carrying out their duties in preventing encroachment onto the pitch, with the safety of players and supporters in mind.
"The club will make no further comment on the matter."
Dorset Police say Man City's final goal led to "a number of Manchester City supporters" encroaching on to the pitch.
"Two male spectators from Manchester were arrested as a result. No other arrests have been made in relation to this incident," a spokesperson added.
The force statement said officers are reviewing CCTV of the pitch encroachment as part of an on-going investigation to establish whether any other offences may have been committed.
"This investigation is in the very early stages and if any further actions need to be taken, this will happen in due course."
One man, who saw the pitch encroachment, said "it all happened very quickly".
"I'd been invited along by some friends. I'm a neutral so wasn't really supporting either side, but was in the Manchester City end.
"They scored and suddenly there were fans on the pitch celebrating and it was a bit chaotic.
"There was a bit of commotion and then it dispersed."
