AFC Bournemouth: Surprised McQuoid happy to start

Bournemouth Echo: GOOD TO BE BACK: AFC Bournemouth's Josh McQuoid GOOD TO BE BACK: AFC Bournemouth's Josh McQuoid

JOSH McQuoid admitted his inclusion in the Cherries starting line-up against Ipswich had been “a nice surprise”.

McQuoid, who had been ruled out since sustaining a knee injury in pre-season, earned a recall for yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Dean Court.

He said: “I knew there were injuries and suspensions so was delighted to see my name on the board. It was a good result but I thought we were unlucky not to win.

“On a personal note, I thought I did okay in the first half but was a little leggy in the second. Fitness will come with more training sessions and games.

“I am not going to get ahead of myself because we have some good players to come back.

"We have a big squad so I have got to keep working hard in training, keep proving myself and keep myself in the manager’s thoughts.”

Boss Eddie Howe said: “It has been a difficult spell for Josh. He picked up an injury in pre-season and that is the worst time. It took a long time to get him back fit.

"We felt today was the right time to bring him back. It is a role he has played before and I thought he got better as the game went on.”

I'm not sure what game Eddie was watching. He looked poor. Also Addison on the bench - now that is a worry, he might get a game soon!!!!

He did ok, but we have better players that could of come in that have played a lot more than he has, will he ever do more than be ok, I don't think so but would love to see him play like he did before he left, but I don't think he can do that regularly, surely Pugh would of been a better option to start

Fitted in well as a Arter replacement, a number of passes to places where there were no Bournemouth players.

Agree with you and Cherryfan, but he was no different to most coming back from a long lay off, Ritchie being the exception. As for misplaced passes, that is something the team has only just eradicated, so I'm prepared to cut him some slack. Do I think we will see the Josh of old?? only time will tell, but I'll give him the chance before I dismiss him out of hand. As with Eunan, who looked out of his depth, now he's found his niche and is now frankly outstanding, so who can say how Josh will fit in. Certainly wish him the best of luck, because he certainly had plenty of ability, now is the time to see it!!

Fair points, it is tough to judge players when they are not playing in there own position, I only see Josh as a forward as I only see Pitman as a forward, on another note, I would really like to see Harry Cornick get a game in the cup against Burton

It's a difficult one. We want to progress, a Cup run would make a pleasant change, good for the bank balance also. But they players have had a tough couple of weeks, so you'd want to rest a few. Is Matthews still injured?? both he and Harry Cornick would be two I'd like to see given a chance, even Jayden Stockley.

In fairness to McQuoid, the only reason he was in he starting eleven was simply because there was no one else. i.e. Arter suspnded and MacDonald injured.
.
But fair play, when Mcquoid is on form and playing in his favoured position I would not discount him.
