HERE’S a “tail” of woe with a sweet ending. Intrepid golden labrador Honey has been reunited with her owners after a fortnight on the run in Purbeck.
The family pet was being put up on a “bed and board” arrangement in Harman’s Cross while the Tideswell family were on holiday in Somerset.
But within hours the six-year-old dog had escaped, prompting the family to cut short their trip on the first day.
A much-loved pet, Honey is an important companion for disabled mum Tracey, 45, who suffers mobility problems.
Posters were swiftly distributed and search teams scrambled as the communities of Harman’s Cross and Corfe Castle rallied round to sniff out the missing hound.
After several near misses, Honey was eventually cornered in a garden on West Street in Corfe.
Father-of-two Wesley, 49, said: “We were getting worried as she had been seen crossing the main road and we began to think we might not get her back.
“But everyone has been fantastic. Friends, neighbours and even complete strangers have been out looking for her.”
Honey’s return also came as an early birthday present for youngest daughter Julie, who turned 15 yesterday.
Incredibly, Honey had survived her time in the wilderness pretty much intact, with just a couple of scratches to show.
Wesley added: “She had lost a bit of weight but not a great deal and she wasn’t particularly dirty.
“We don’t blame anyone for it. It was just one of those things and having her back is the main thing.”
