RESIDENTS are being encouraged to have their say on how almost £500,000 is spent on improving Branksome Railway Station and travel links along two of the district’s main roads.

Borough of Poole is consulting on upgrading travel along Poole Road and Bourne Valley Road.

Around £460,000 from the multi million pounds Three Towns Travel project has been earmarked for improvements to Poole Road, including the junction with Bourne Valley.

Meanwhile, Branksome Railway Station is set to benefit from a £25,000 cash injection in a bid to get more people using the train.

Cllr Xena Dion, Borough of Poole cabinet member for a prosperous and sustainable Poole, said: “The responses to this survey will help us shape travel improvement proposals to the commuter routes through Branksome.

“By also improving the experience for users of Branksome Railway Station, it is hoped that many more local people may chose rail travel for their preferred means of getting around the borough.

“So whether you walk, cycle, use the bus, car or train, please complete the questionnaire as your opinions do count.”

Earlier this year Borough of Poole launched a similar consultation on how best to spend £1million on improving travel in Ashley Road.

Council staff will be at St Aldhelm’s Church, St Aldhelm’s Road, today, between 12.30-7.30pm, to answer any questions and help with questionnaires.

A Borough of Poole spokesman explained: “The money could be spent on improved provision for cyclists by making it safer and more convenient and better for buses in reducing journey times and improved reliability.

“Residents could also potentially benefit from enhancements to the street environment and facilities such as pedestrian crossings to encourage people to walk locally.”
