Luke Campbell's mother sets out to tackle knife crime

THE mother of a student who was stabbed to death in Bournemouth has teamed up with a rapper to set up a foundation to help prevent knife crime.

Luke Campbell, 20, was chased through the streets and killed in a back garden off St Clement’s Road, Boscombe on November 7 2008. Luke’s killers Larbi Mohamed, Saeed Alkadir and Delaine Brown were given life sentences at Winchester Crown Court.

Now Luke’s mum Hazel Hayes and rapper Neil Olsson from Derby have formed Lookup Like Luka B in honour of Luke and aim to get sponsorship from businesses and government funding.

The aim is to set up a youth centre in Luke’s home town of Burton in Staffordshire, to be run by his cousin Dave Jones, and in time a second centre in Bournemouth.

It would offer young people the chance to get involved in music and dance, training for jobs and mentoring to steer them away from knife crime, said Hazel.

Hazel said: “It is all about getting kids to do something positive, getting them into work and also a confidence builder. It’s what Luke would want.”

Rapper Neil, who goes by the stage name Red Tempa and has appeared on MTV, is recording an anti-knife crime song called More to Life, with proceeds to go to the new foundation.

A website is also being set up at lukeslaw.co.uk where people can find out more about Luke’s life, listen to his music and leave tribute messages.

Neil said: “I have experienced both sides of the law when I got into a bit of trouble.

“I just wanted to show my support.”

People can contact Neil on 07542 052196 or email retemper@hotmail.com

Sounds like a worthwhile cause. Also they should use what happened to Luke as a example to all younsters not to get involved in drugs

Red Tempa is certainly a name that will stick for someone who is recording an anti- knife crime song!

Good luck with your cause- you may wish to call upon the work and knowledge of Cherie Blair (Ex PM Tony Blairs wife, who is a Barrister and Judge). When it became public knowledge just how many young people were dying from knife crime- (back in 2008) - the government were pushed in to looking like they were doing something about it. Cherie was Chairperson of a Tackling Knife Crime strategy group & toured the UK to hear all sides of the problem. A report concluded that violent influences such as computer games, films and music glamourised the gangster culture and blurred the lines between fantasy and reality in the minds of some young people- effectively all this violence had become a social norm to them.
.
What action was taken as a result of the report I dont know. What action Cherie Blair took after the report I do know. She (and son Nicky Blair) became board members of Magnitude Gaming, a computer games company which makes violent computer games.
