RINGWOOD businesses are going all out to beat the recession by encouraging shoppers to buy from their stores with the launch of the Echo-backed Ringwood Loyalty Discount Scheme.
The man behind the scheme, Jim Stride, was this morning urging the business community to see shops with few customers as an opportunity to grow and not a reason to draw down the shutters.
With about 80 businesses signed up to the scheme – launched this morning with the aid of New Forest West MP Desmond Swayne and town Mayor Brian Terry – it looks to be a winner all the way.
“I am so pleased that so many traders and businesses have endorsed this scheme.

Shoppers will be able to present vouchers, snipped from the Daily Echo, at participating businesses to earn super savings ranging from five to 20 per cent.
And that will benefit both shoppers in these days of tightened purse strings and retailers who are feeling the pinch.
The mayor said: “We welcome any scheme that obviously helps the traders and the people in general. With the current trading conditions it’s going to be hard whatever you do. Let’s hope we get enough steam behind it.”
Newly-elected joint president of Ringwood Chamber of Commerce, Leigh Neville, said: “I have worked with the RLDS team and am heartened by the energy and commitment they have put into launching what will prove to be a very worthwhile enterprise.”
Mr Stride said: “I am so pleased that so many traders and businesses have endorsed this scheme.
“You are all now part of a unique incentive to attract thousands of new shoppers and customers into our wonderful town of Ringwood.
“I am thrilled that the Daily Echo has endorsed and supported this scheme with such passion. As the editor, Neal Butterworth, said, this ‘keep trade local’ initiative could be rolled out throughout the area to support other local towns in these difficult times.”
