A TRACTOR and straw bales were destroyed in a fire in North Dorset on Thursday.

Dorset Fire and Rescue were called at 4.50pm to Lower Street, Winterborne Whitechurch.

In total, 30 firefighters from Blandford, Bere Regis, Poole, Wimborne and Ferndown were called, including four light off road vehicles.

The fire involved a tractor and trailer within a field of baled hay.

A spokesperson for the service said it is believed that an electrical fault in the tractor caused the blaze.

Fire crews remained on scene for some time, damping down and ensuring the area was safe.

A crew was due to return to the scene last night to ensure no further action was required.
