READING about the tragic loss of the little girl at the lock near Wolverley recently, I remember the canal in much happier times.
My uncle Charles Steward was the lock keeper between 1932 and 1934.
The Lock pub was then a private house and he lived there with his wife and my cousins, Vinny, Charlie, Connie and Cissie.
Sometimes in the summer holidays my sister Elsie and I used to spend a week there. We lived not far away at Quatt village.
Uncle Charlie, like my father, his brother, was a very keen gardener and where the car park is now was a beautiful terraced garden.
I have a photo of him in the front of the lock with a big flower arrangement he had created. Can anyone tell me when the house was turned into the village pub as it is today?
