UPDATED: Fault fixed after blackout in Boscombe

HUNDREDS of people were left in the dark on Thursday night after a power cut in Bournemouth.

A total of 1700 homes and businesses were left without electricity in the Boscombe area of Bournemouth just before 7pm on Thursday.

SSE engineers investigating the problem said there was a fault on the main network.

They apologised for the inconvenience.

Some homes had power restored by 8.30pm although the fault was not completely fixed until nearly 11pm.

The Urban Reef restaurant had 120 customers arriving for a meal and quiz when the power cut started but they were among those who had electricity restored before 8pm.

Traffic lights along Owls Road at the junctions with Sea Road and St John's Road were also out.

so why is this Bournemouth and not Boscombe in the headline? when the story was about the derelict hotel in East Cliff that was headlined as Boscombe, even though it actually isn't in Boscombe at all. but i suppose "derelict hotel" pushes more buttons when paired with Boscombe than "power cut" does.

BUt I dont live in Boscombe very near it Wellington Road, so I guess it was a power cut widespread in Bournemouth.? Still not the end of the world lights all back to normal.

Why are power cuts happening much more frequently in the conurbation these days? Are the lights about to go out permanently?

Oh, there was a fault. Duh. Some expert said that I suppose? The Echo could have gone to my friend who lives on Sea Road and gotten that quote.

It appears that the second most used language in the U.K. (after swearing) is Polish, more people speak it than any other.
I am not sure what "lights out" means in Polish but get ready to hear it!
I mean, Boscombe has to keep up its image!
