VIRGIN Media says it is doubling the internet speeds of its customers in Poole at no extra cost.

It says the town will have some of the fastest speeds in the UK as part of a nationwide initiative to improve the connections of more than four million cable customers.

The company is also boosting its top speed to 120Mb, which it claims confirms Virgin Media as the fastest widely available broadband provider in the UK.

The upgrades mean customers on 10mb will receive 20Mb and 30Mb rise to 60Mb; 50Mb to 100Mb; and 100Mb to 120Mb when the service rolls out.

Speeds of 120Mb mean users can download an album in 4.4 seconds and an HD film in around five minutes, the company says.
