A serious single vehicle accident sparked the closure of Stapehill Road at Longham at the junction of Ham Lane earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene to deal with the incident where a white Citroen van went into a tree.

Police were called at 6.17am and Dorset Fire and Rescue also attended. Two ambulances were also called.

The road was closed for most of the morning to allow for collision investigators to examine the scene.

The male driver has been taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Next of kin have been informed.
