A LORRY driver had a lucky escape after his truck clipped a car and flipped over on a major Dorset road.

The emergency services were sent to the eastbound A31 near Ferndown police station at around 1.45pm yesterday.

The carriageway was closed while the debris was dealt with, causing drivers problems into the rush hour as they diverted through Longham and Ferndown.

Speaking to the Daily Echo on the scene, PC Tim Brehmer, from Poole Traffic Police, said the lorry clipped a BMW that was stopped at the side of the road, over-corrected and hit the central reservation, ending up on its side.

“The driver of the BMW was out, which was key. The driver of the lorry suffered cuts and bruises,” he added.

PC Brehmer said the driver was lucky to walk away from the crash.

The eastbound carriageway was closed, while westbound one lane was shut going past the scene.
