THERE is just no stopping the Sharks Swimming Club at present.

Last week we reported on the club's fantastic medal-haul in the National Swimming Championships held in Reading.

Then members of the club took part in the Astra Gala held in Sevenoaks Pool with many relay and individual successes.

The four-strong senior relay squad of Trisha Barrett (Eltham), Matthew Griffiths (Erith), Kay Instrell (Mottingham) and Ben Summers (Brockley) finished in an excellent second place.

Then three members of the regional final relay team went one better by winning gold.

The trio of Daryl Beaumont (Bromley), Sarah Louise-Casey (Erith) and Matthew McDaid (Chislehurst) also won individual medals, all in the 100 metres freestyle.

Daryl and Sarah-Louise won silver, while Matthew went one better by winning gold.

But perhaps te best swims of the gala came from the Sharks' junior memebrs.

The relay squad of James Gray (Mottingham), Steven Rann (Mottingham), Katherine Mannion (Sidcup) and Emma Kent (Erith) won gold, as well as helping the club win the overall team title.

Individually, they all achieved podium places in freestyle events.

James and Emma both won silver in their respective 50-metre races, while Steven was runner-up over 25 metres. But Katherine took first prize when she won her 25-metre race.

Sharks Swmming Club, which holds training sessions at the Eric Liddle Sports Centre, in Mottingham, on Monday nights, encourages people with any kind of disability to join.
