I WONDER if through your newspaper I could thank and extol the virtues of all involved at the Heroes Haven at Herston, Swanage .

I have recently spent a very enjoyable stay at the log cabin purposely designed to aid injured service personnel, and I would to thank all concerned in the project. This not only extends to the trustees, but to the people and companies of Swanage and Purbeck who made all this possible by their contributions to this exceedingly worthwhile endeavour.

Having been seriously injured a number of years ago whilst serving with the RAF, I know only too well the frustrations of trying to locate suitable holiday accommodation that will cater for people totally confined to wheelchairs.

Rest assured this cabin addresses that problem.

After years of setbacks, my wife and I have become somewhat pernickety, and racked our brains to find ‘observations’ that could be improved upon.

Suffice to say we have no hesitations in booking again for next year.

Holidays such as this are rare, and you all should feel sufficiently proud of yourselves for your efforts and contributions. I sincerely thank and applaud you all.

I would also like to thank, Caroline; Sue & Alison of Nightingale Care Agency, Swanage, who provided an excellent service in assisting me each morning during my stay. This relieved my wife of the daily chore of getting me ready for the day; they were lovely.

Additionally, Wareham Social Services who provided a portable hoist for my use deserve a mention as this was an invaluable piece of vital equipment. Sometimes government agencies get a raw deal I hope I have redressed this where appropriate. I would like to make mention of thanks to the Ship Inn at Langton Matravers, who provided a welcome food parcel; it was very welcome!

Finally, I’d like to single out Mandy of the trustees who has exceeded her remit to ensure my wife; family and I had a comfortable and enjoyable holiday. We all did, and for that we thank you profusely. Thank you Mandy.
