BOTH the Daily Echo headlines and the letters page light up with features and diatribes when the price of petrol is increased; but has no one noticed that it has now ‘plummeted’ to less than £1.34 per litre from the previously ridiculous £1.41 (unleaded prices).

One can only presume, as there has been this lack of publicity, firework displays, three cheers, “for he’s a jolly good fellow” etc, that the government are trying to sweeten us up after their recent trouncing at the elections. And well they might.

But now I can afford to cut my lawn again (petrol mower), visit a few relations, or perhaps even go for a Sunday afternoon countryside ride again, now that cheaper motoring and the open road is beckoning once more.
