THE article about Simone Garland and Martyn Dear having to travel miles to take their young daughter Tamzin to school and back shows another example of ‘expert’ errors (Echo, May 16).

Surely it should be corrected by allowing parents to use schools nearer their homes?

This would reduce very many emissions from cars travelling all of the extra miles and causing more congestion.

If this problem is also caused by children going to better schools, surely the other schools should be improved.

Other improvements which should be made are: 1. Re-opening Townsend School.

2. Improving control of children for teachers by selling all of the classroom tables and then bringing back desks (all facing the teacher). This would also allow many young children to leave books in their desks instead of getting injuries from carrying heavy satchels.

3. Teacher’s training days should also be in the long summer holidays instead of a day or two after the holidays.

Can we hope?
