YOUR correspondent D E Riley (Letters April 21) obviously knows nothing of local history, nor much about trams.
Trams ran from Poole to Christchurch for over 30 years from April 6 1901 until 1935.
The last Bournemouth to Christchurch tram ran in 1936.
They managed the hills of North Road and Castle hill in Parkstone, Poole Hill and Triangle, Old Christchurch road, and from Pokesdown to Iford.
Hardly “flat straight roads”.
